David de Lara’s Broken Dolls

Art Reception with Live Music and Burlesque Performances
Saturday, August 25, 7-11pm

broken-dollsPump Project presents David de Lara’s Broken Dolls, an exhibit of artwork by David de Lara, taking place Saturday, August 25th, 7–11 pm in the gallery at Pump Project Art Complex. The event will also include live music from Estrum and a burlesque show by Cadaver Cabaret.

For most of the past decade David de Lara has drawn and painted figurative work and portraits of women. A couple of years ago someone mentioned how the girls he creates are dolls. He thought it was a strange but fitting comment. Since David doesn’t set out to capture anyone in particular, the women have no identities and are like dolls he uses for personal expression. They symbolize the human condition and share thoughts, ideas, feelings, and reactions to events in his life. They can be whimsical and even melancholic. In essence the women David creates are Broken Dolls – likenesses of our imperfect selves. More of David de Lara’s artwork can be seen at www.lostdreams.org

Estrum is a female-fronted metal band. Their sound blends classic metal with 70s progressive styles to lay a rock solid foundation for the virtuosic and haunting vocals of front woman Zena McKelvy. Each song takes the listener on an introspective journey through the lonely desolation of our modern culture. Fans of Tool, Opeth or Pink Floyd are sure to find themselves deeply enthralled with Estrum’s hypnotic and dynamic sound.

With roots in traditional burlesque from the 20s through 40s, Cadaver Cabaret combines the best of modern horror with classic styling from the past. Audiences should be prepared for a sinful stage show featuring the sexiest and most horrifying acts. Whether they’re a graveyard dwelling Goth, a classy pin-up with a lust for blood, or a seductress with the mind of a serial killer, the girls of Cadaver Cabaret will do nothing short of conjuring the most vivid images of stunning beauty and unrelenting terror in audience’s minds.

In the meantime, enjoy the teaser video.
